Yvonne Ncube, the entertainment reporter's trend focus today is glasses. Retro sunglasses styles for men and women are making a comeback this season. This time, the designers tirelessly released the glasses styles, and no one knew they needed an update.

Returning with different shades of green, pink, beige, blue and oversized frames, of course, there is no need to explain why they have plundered the hearts of many people.

Since 2021, fashion lovers have been pressing the refresh button to embrace the energy brought by the beginning of the new year. Fashionastas has been silently competing with each other, launching a series of sunglasses in different shapes, colors and sizes.

Opticians also use this niche to provide glasses in popular shapes and abandon traditional boring glasses. Gone are the days when glasses were only used as medical equipment. Today, they have taken another role, which is fashion.

In the past few decades, retro sunglasses have been a decisive fashion style feature in modern eyewear design.

Although the progress of materials, colors, and lens development is undergoing changes and improvements, the face remains relatively unchanged, so the familiar phrase "classic never goes out of style" becomes more and more important.

Essentially, the design aesthetics of retro sunglasses, aviators, cat eyes, and travelers are still as good-looking today as they were 10 years ago.

Nowadays, people can never tell whether someone is wearing fashionable glasses or spectacles. For the first time in decades, people who wear glasses no longer label them as "nerds."

Although technology is booming and making life easier in many ways, the feeling of the past is always there. Therefore, before we delve into today’s trends, it’s important to review the history of oversized sunglasses.

Oversized sunglasses first became popular in the 1960s, when women bought them to imitate the sunglasses first won by celebrity Jacqueline Kenedy Onassis. The history of sunglasses is actually longer. They were originally developed for pilots. However, they quickly became popular among Hollywood stars such as Marilyn Monroe and James Dean.

The first sunglasses consisted of smoky crystal plates, which were used to protect the eyes from sunlight.

The 20th century was the century when American designer Sam Foster began to mass-produce sunglasses for the American public when the use of glasses really took off. It is said that since then, many companies have flourished solely by manufacturing sunglasses.

They recently made a comeback in the 21st century, and their popularity is mainly attributed to fashionistas like Paris Hilton.

Therefore, it can be said with certainty that historical public figures, fashion influencers and trends have greatly shaped today's eyewear industry. These factors combine happily and truly promote each other to cultivate a new style of presentation that is adopted by the entire society.

This, coupled with the iconic public figures wearing celebrity sunglasses that are desired by others, all play an important role in why glasses perform so well and truly stand the test of time.

Celebrities, public figures, and influential people play a vital role in society. They are role models, constantly appearing in front of the public, and are the root driving factors for the rapid development of fashion.

A perfect example not far from home is Bonang Matheba from neighboring South Africa. Bonang can be safely called an influential person because she has a lot of people, or more precisely, she has a lot of fans looking to her for fashion or other inspiration.

Believe me, when I say that if Bonang Matheba wears small glasses that only cover the eye sockets, people naturally want to wear this style, no matter how strange it looks.

When celebrity glasses are promoted, products of this particular style are bound to skyrocket, and so are sunglasses. Therefore, whether you choose to wear sunglasses because of fashion or just to protect your eyes, make sure you get the perfect shape for your face.

They have round frames, heart-shaped frames, tortoiseshell frames, thin wire frames, pilot frames, rectangular frames and diamond frames. With these wide choices, no one will not have their perfect match.

Bulawayo was not immune to this wave of fashion change. Everyone, there are no gender barriers and age restrictions, because everyone is shaking their sunglasses this year.

Velda Musengeyi, a 23-year-old sunglasses fanatic, said she has a range of different shades and multiple colors.

"I recently fell in love with the new trending shapes in the shadows. I like how they cover the face, especially with a mask, you can look beautiful while protecting yourself from the heat.

My love for glasses is increasing day by day, so I have been buying different frames and colors, because I found that some shades may be suitable for jeans, but may not be suitable for summer clothes. So I buy different types to cover that niche market.

I have liked sunglasses since elementary school, but I have never bought as many as this year. My inspiration comes from celebrities, I follow the trend, I don’t follow the trend," Musengay said. Flora Manjengwa said she was under pressure from social media.

"I started to see celebrities wearing these colorful wide glasses. In the blink of an eye, everyone accepted the trend.

The whole thing spread so fast on my watch, which surprised me very much.

Social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram have been bombarded by people wearing these sunglasses.

Due to strong demand, online entrepreneurs have recently recorded active business.

"Personally, I like colored glasses because they make my face glow and make me look attractive. I look good in them, and I like the fact that they attract people’s attention. Wherever I go, I will attract attention, and they announce my existence.

Manjengwa said: "I urge those who have not done so to buy today, because if you look good, you will feel good." – @SeehYvonne
